IMPLANTS
Here in our Red Bank dental office, we use primarily one type of implant system, osseointegrated implants. These implants are made from pure titanium metal. The breakthrough in implant dentistry came about when it was discovered that pure titanium metal actually fuses to the bone if it is allowed to lay undisturbed in bone for several months. Thus, implants in approximately the shape of a tooth root can be embedded in bone. The implants are in the form of a hollow cylinder that has threads on the inside.
This allows us to screw into the implant an anchoring device that can be used for a variety of purposes. We can replace a single missing tooth with an implant. We can replace a span of missing teeth with several implants that have been restored by a fixed bridge. Or, we can anchor a complete, but removable, denture by implants. In our office, Dr. Zaidi works as a team with our on staff periodontist, Dr. Stephen H. Traum, to provide the patient with the best possible treatment option for their particular needs.
The implant approach that is right for each patient depends on many factors, such as:
1. the patient's general health
2. the amount of jaw bone remaining in the area from which teeth have been removed
3. the patient's psychological needs
4. the patient's financial resources
Chapel Hill Dental Arts and Straumann implants can provide the answer to missing teeth and let you restore your smile in a few simple steps!
Caring for dental implants is as important as caring for your natural teeth. Our hygienist, Aimee, can show you how regular brushing and flossing and scheduled maintenance will keep your new implants performing well and looking good. Occasionally, the implants may need to be tightened or the attachments to the denture changed. Dr. Zaidi and your Red Bank implant team will help you take excellent care of your restored smile!
